I’m discovering that my recovery life and my Christian life seem to be in lockstep. A lot of the things I’m seeing in Bible Study directly match up with the Just For Today readings and I’ve got too much faith in God’s power to believe that that is just a coincidence. The LORD is speaking to me, and its about time I started listening.
Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains by itself. But if it dies, it produces much fruit. The one who loves his life will lose it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. – John 12:23-25
At first glance, this didn’t make a lick of sense to me, because I was looking at it from a self-centered perspective. Whats wrong with loving your life? Why would that be a bad thing? Doesn’t God want us to be happy? Happiness is a selfish notion. I believe the lesson here to be that if you put all of your faith, love, and commit wholly to God, he will provide happiness above and beyond anything that you could possibly imagine. As difficult as that is for most of us to grasp, because we spend so much of our time thinking about “what if” and “why does this work” — which has led to some miraculous discoveries, but as the verse states, none of the amazing things that have happened were in spite of God, but because his will dictated that amazing things happen.
Keep the faith, brothers and sisters.
Love and light.
